European Science Foundation (ESF)
The European Science Foundation (ESF) was founded in 1974 and supports research in Europe. It organizes 78 scientific associations from 30 countries under one roof. As German members there take part the following instiutions: the German Research Organization (DFG), the Max-Planck-Society (MPG). the Herman-von-Helmholtz-Society and the Union of German Academies of Science. The aim of the ESF is to promote and develop research activities in the European Community by bringing together the most reknown scientists and supporter.
In co-operation with the European Heads of Research Councils (EUROHORCs) every is awarded the European Young Investigator Award (EYRIA) with 1.25 million EUR to 25 outstanding young researchers.
