Funding and Grants in Germany
German-Israeli Foundation of Scientific Research and Development (GIF)
The German-Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development (Deutsch-Israelische Stiftung für Wissenschaftliche Forschung und Entwicklung) supports the scientific and technological co-operation between the States of Germany and Israel. The Foundation awards funding to co-operative research projects, in both basic and applied research, which are of mutual interest to the Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Israel.
All universities, colleges, academies and research institutes as well as members of the German Higher Education Establishment (Deutschen Hochschulrektorenkonferenz, HRK), and comparable institutions in Israel are eligible for funding.
Research projects can be funded for up to three years, and with up to 225,000 EUR in total. If three groups of researchers from different institutes are involved with the project, the funding can amount to up to 300.000 EUR.
In certain exceptional cases involving industrial participation, or with multidisciplinary projects, on which five to six groups of researchers from different fields are involved, funds of up to 600.000 EUR can be made available.
There are special advancement programs for young scientists, interdisciplinary projects and applied research.
